Perthshire Mens 2nd recommenced their league games after the Christmas break with a home match last Saturday against Madras. With an early pushback away from home Madras were at a disadvantage from the start, having only been able to field 10 players. Perthshire started the game brightly with good passing interplay that ensured early dominance of both territory and possession. Despite sustained pressure and several short corners the first goal was slow to come, with Perthshire occasionally being guilty of pushing too far up-field leaving them vulnerable to the counter attack. Eventually Calum MacFarlane managing to beat an in-form Madras keeper after 15 minutes of play. With a further goal added by half time Shire looked the likely winners and so it proved to be. With Madras tiring a further three goals were added in the second half, with both Calum Macfarlane adding a second to his tally and Craig Loudon scoring. It was also good to see Andrew Sutherland who was making his return from long-term injury score, as well as Keiron Toole continue his goal scoring run. At the other end Perthshire's keeper Owen Toole was left with little to do, though did what was required well. The eventual 5-0 win for Perthshire was fairly emphatic. This Saturday the squad is likely to face a sterner test when they play Dundee University at Auchterader(Pushback 1 pm). |
