Perthshire 1st XI came out of hibernation on Saturday. After a couple of matches postponed due to snow, 'Shire headed north to play Aberdeen University in almost balmy temperatures of 5 degrees. Perthshire were unlucky to draw to the Uni side earlier in the season, and this game was a 'six-pointer'; the Aberdeen side sitting 3 points above Perthshire in National League 3. A youthful Perthshire side started the game strongly, dominating the first 20 minutes, and taking an early lead through Neil Robertson. 'Shire didn't capitalise on their early pressure, and went in at half-time, 2-1 down as Aberdeen crept back into the game. 'Shire started the 2nd half strongly pulling the scores back level, with a well-taken goal from Michael Roberston. However, Perthshire's concentration wained for a short period; the Uni side took full advantage; and took the gap between the sides to 3 goals. By the time 'Shire switched back on, it was too late. A goal from Michael Swann and another from Michael Robertson, almost drew the scores level, but the game finished Aberdeen University 5, Perthshire 4. There were some really promising spells from the young Perthshire side. If they can maintain concentration levels for the full game, then there will surely be some good results during the remainder of the league season. The 1st XI play host to Granite City Wanderers at Strathallan on the 13th March.
